Russian adjectives
RUSSIAN ADJECTIVES
An adjective describes a noun (person, animal, phenomenon, thing, substance, etc). Watch the lesson about Russian nouns and genders first!
All Russian adjectives change their endings according to the gender of a noun: masculine, feminine, neuter.
MASCULINE endings ЫЙ, ИЙ, ОЙ
The ending ЫЙ is the most common. ИЙ we use after those “special” letters that we mentioned in previous lessons (Г К Х Ц Ч Ш Щ). ОЙ we use when the ending is stressed. Watch the video with explanations, please.

СТА́РЫЙ – old
У́МНЫЙ – smart
МА́ЛЕНЬКИЙ – small
ХОРО́ШИЙ – good
ЛЁГКИЙ – light
БОЛЬШО́Й – big
СУХО́Й – dry
МОЛОДО́Й – young
ПЛОХО́Й – bad
